Update from the Weekend

Today I am wearing a black (just past) knee-length skirt, a red short-sleeved top, and my sandals. Which are sort of platformy and light tan. I have a couple necklaces-as-bracelets on, and my hair back in a braid. I feel that I look fairly decent. Score one for wearing skirts. :-D

Well, even though it was ungodly hot this weekend, I actually did things! Crazy, I know!

Saturday included switching rooms. We just renewed our lease, so this way each of us ends up getting a year in the big room. Things went pretty smoothly, though because (as mentioned before) the air conditioning doesn't reach back to the bedrooms, it was a sweaty, sweaty event. Ew. Many breaks to cool down in the living room. I still have things to do, like finding places for things, and hanging stuff on the walls, and doing laundry, and sorting through my giant pile of clothes to just get rid of the stuff that I haven't worn since we moved in. Some things like that make sense to save (like dresses), but there's plenty of things that I should just suck it up and give them away (or throw them away if it's things like old undies and socks). If I can do that by next Wednesday, I can take it up to my parents' and have them toss it in with their next batch of stuff for Purple Heart.

(For those not in-the-know, Purple Heart is like Goodwill, but they benefit Veterans of the Purple Heart. It's where my family gives their things to be donated. We are, surprisingly, sort of a big military family. Only a few of the cousins in this generation have served/are serving military time, but definitely more in generations past. I've told you about the governmental/military spies in my family, right? :-D)

Anyhoo. Sunday, we decided to be geeks, and went to Wizard World! Which is a fairly large comic convention just a little bit out of the city. We had (again, despite the heat) quite a good time! Bethy did a write-up of it, but I know her entry is locked, so here's my version!

We got to the convention center pretty much right as they were opening for the day. Which meant that for a little bit at least, things were fairly calm. It of course got busier as the day went on, but it wasn't *too* bad. We didn't see as many people in costume as the last time we went, though there were some! Some people had a full-size functional robotic R2-D2, which was pretty awesome. :-D

We walked around a bit, and eventually got sucked into Artist Alley. Let me just say that it's a good thing that I DON'T have any money right now, because I would've spent so much in Artist Alley. Unghf. Original art. ♥ x a million. I ended up getting sidetracked by talking to this one guy whose stuff I liked. We talked about Chicago (he's thinking of moving here around March or so) and school and art and techniques and doing printing press work and I got to talking about the classes I was going to be taking, and a little bit about my senior project, and I was having a pretty good time. For about 15 minutes. At least. :-D Aaaannd... I sort of lost Bethy. :-D *facepalm* I kept walking through eventually, and then got sidetracked into talking to this OTHER guy whose stuff was awesome (and who I feel bad about because I lied and said I'd come back to buy something and never did... :-( ).

BUT! Thank goodness there was phone reception in the convention hall! I was finally able to text Bethy and we found each other again! :-D And we walked around a little more looking at all the guest people that were there. There were a lot! Mainly people from geek-related things, but also (and this is something that I will never quite understand) professional wrestlers. :-D We didn't really stop to talk to anyone or get anything signed until we got to Doug Jones.

Now, I'll be totally honest. When Bethy had told me that Doug Jones was going to be at Wizard World, I had absolutely NO idea who she was talking about. But after a quick look on imdb.com, I was sort of excited! He's been in a lot of stuff! Including but not limited to: Hellboy & Hellboy II (he was Abe Sapien!), Buffy (he was one of the Gentlemen in Hush), some episodes of Criminal Minds (not as the same person), Pan's Labyrinth, and many more! (He was also apparently the singing crescent moon headed guy years and years ago in the McDonalds Commercials. Who knew!?!)

So Bethy bought a photoprint thing to get signed, and we waited in line. Here is where I will tell you that Doug Jones? Is an incredibly charming man. Wow. And also extremely tactile. He likes to touch. :-D But not in a creepy way! And I don't always like people touching me, but this was just fine! We had to wait in line, but when we got up there, it was worth it. :-D He talked mostly to Bethy, because she was the one getting something signed, but he did talk to me a little too. We talked about our shirts (both Bethy and I were wearing Woot shirts) and the scene from Hellboy II that Bethy's photoprint thing was from.

And then it was hug time! :-D For everyone in his line, after he signs stuff and talks to you for a bit, he then comes out and gives you a hug. And not just a normal hug! A "gather you close like you're the most precious thing ever" type of hug. Complete with cradling your face and/or neck and/or kissing the top of your head (because he's a trillion feet tall lol!). He kept talking as he hugged me, and in my head I was sort of like "I can hear *and* feel you talking because you've somehow managed to press my ear to your throat as you're hugging me". :-D And it kept me smiling for the rest of the day. Even today, when I think about it. :-D I sort of wanted to bring him home and keep him.

So in summary: ♥Doug Jones♥

Alright! Moving on from that! We wandered a little more and found our way back to Artist Alley. And there's a woman named Katie Cook that comes to Wizard world that does tiny painting/drawings for $5! :-O And they're SUPER CUTE. I gave in and got one. :-D Along with 2 buttons.

Here's mine!

Here's Bethy's!

We didn't stay too much longer after that. We'd been there about 4 and a half hours, and since we didn't go to any of the panels, 4 and a half hours of wandering was quite enough geekness for us. :-D Plus, it was getting to the point where the air in places felt like a trillion people had already breathed it. Ew. So we ended our adventure and headed back home.

And that's pretty much it! Today it's back to work, and hoping that I don't have to pack any more this week for our art department move. We'll see how that goes. They're (finally!) supposed to move things on Friday(/Saturday or Monday?). They can't wait too much longer! Classes start the 24th, and they need to UNpack in the new space. :-D

Okay. Time to do some work now. What's everyone else up to lately?
